When you have made final decisions regarding your siding replacement project—chosen the material, secured the funding, signed the paperwork—then most of the hard work is done. All you need to do is prepare your home for installation day. In today’s post, local siding and roofing company Adams Roofing Professionals, Inc. shares some of the things you can do to prepare your home for siding installation day.
1. Remove Shutters and Exterior Fixtures — Check the house exterior and remove components that can get in the way of the siding installers, such as removable window shutters and lighting fixtures. Downspout extensions will likewise have to be removed. Doing this early on will give you more than enough time to ask for help from your gutter or shutter contractor if they’re not designed to be removed by the homeowner. Shrubs and other plants near the exterior walls may also need to be tied back.
2. Trim the Trees — If you have trees on your property, there are many benefits to keeping them trimmed. Sharp branches may poke or scratch the siding and roof that could result in unexpected siding and roof repair costs. Trimmed branches can also help facilitate faster and safer siding installation, particularly on upper-story exterior walls. We recommend hiring a local arborist if you’re unsure how to trim branches without harming the tree.
3. Clear the Yard — Your lawn, deck and patio likely have furniture and other ornaments that may need to be removed by your siding installers. You can help speed up the process, maybe even prevent accidental damage, by moving these items yourself. Your siding contractor may also need the yard space to store siding materials, both new and discarded, during installation.
4. Remove the Wall Decor — Siding installation involves a lot of hammering, which may dislodge anything that’s hung on your wall. Remove framed photos and other wall decors, as well as furniture placed along the exterior walls, to prevent damage to them. Vibrations caused by hammering may also knock dirt and dust loose. Protect your furniture and electronics by covering them for the duration of your siding replacement.
